The other night my husband had a late meeting at church and my kids were antsy after dinner. So I proclaimed a game night and the kids begged for popcorn as a treat while we played games. I no longer buy microwave popcorn because of all of the bad for you stuff in it. If you don’t know about that I will let you google it, its bad, otherwise just trust me it’s not healthy for you. So I have an old air popper I bust out when we want popcorn, I got it at a garage sale when we first got married almost 11 years ago. I love fresh air popped corn and it only takes a few minutes to make. While it is yummy, its pretty bland. We like a little butter and salt on our popcorn but have you ever tried to just pour melted butter over popcorn? Yep a soggy nasty mess… Good news! I have a way to make super yummy buttered popcorn at home that is NOT SOGGY!
First start with plain popcorn, either air popped or put kernels in a brown paper bag and roll shut then microwave. Next you need clarified butter, to make it melt a stick of real butter in a microwave safe glass measuring cup or bowl.
Next let it sit for a 3-5 minutes. Then see the foam on the top? Skim it off.
Then see the stuff on the bottom? That is the fat that has settled, what you want is that yellowish clarified butter in the middle of the foam and fat. Carefully spoon that out and sprinkle over your popcorn. It sits on top of the popcorn instead of soaking into it making it soggy! Now again I was going for healthier than microwave so maybe don’t go too overboard with adding that yummy butter. We just add enough for flavor and sprinkle with salt. The clarified butter helps the salt stick also, rather than falling to the bottom of the bowl like it would if I just salted straight from the air popper.
That is the popcorn all buttered… NOT SOGGY!!! Oh and a quick photo of our little popcorn, lemonade and game night 🙂
Yes its Doc McStuffins UNO, I have an avid Doc McStuffins lover! We had so much fun and enjoyed our buttery but not soggy popcorn. Thanks for stopping by!
