A Detox Bath That Changed My Health!

I have recently come across many detox bath ideas and all of the healing benefits they can offer. I decided to try some of the ingredients I had on hand from a few I have seen. I decided even if it doesn’t help me, no harm done and I got 40 minutes of relax time which is a rare treat for me as a stay at home mom.

My own personal benefits have been great! Like I mentioned I was skeptical of it really helping me. I got a huge surprise when it helped a health issue I’ve had since I was a kid. I don’t admit this often, because who really points out their flaws they are self conscious about, but my left eyelid droops. Ever since I realized this I have been frustrated with it. I notice it in pictures, but I realize until I tell people they probably don’t pay much attention to it. I have seen doctors and they can’t find a reason for it. It worsens when I am lacking proper sleep, have been crying or I’m sick. A few years ago I resigned myself to it always being droopy. Trying to angle my head in pictures so it wasn’t as noticeable, using makeup to make it look more open, etc. I am obviously self conscious about this and I cannot believe I am admitting this to others still! Since the detox baths though, my eyelid is no longer drooping! Seriously life changing for me, I know it sounds small but to me it is big.

Here are some pictures of me before with my left eye drooping, yes I know it does not look that terrible to others but to me it was:

Now my eye looks like this, sorry it isn’t a great picture but its a quick self pic this morning before church:

Not perfect, but much improved!

I’m also sleeping better, I have struggled with insomnia for more than 15 years now so that was a big plus also. I have noticed more energy and less sinus problems as well. I am only sad I didn’t find this sooner. For now I am doing this once a week, but may increase it to more often see if it would help me even more.

These are the ingredients I used:

1 cup Epsom salts
1/2 cup freshly ground ginger root
1/3 cup baking soda
1/2 teaspoon Lavender essential oil (sometimes I just grab a few sprigs from my lavender plant in my herb garden)

I fill the tub with really hot water then add the salts and baking soda. Then I put the freshly ground ginger root into a small mesh bag (I got them 6 for $1 at the dollar store). I let this mesh bag float in the tub so when I am done no ginger goes down the drain and it is easy to remove and discard. Then I put in the lavender oil. I soak in this bath for about 40 minutes drinking 2-3 bottles of water to help rehydrate.

The Epsom salts help remove toxins from the body through sweat. It also helps nourish your skin with minerals as it draws out the toxins. The ginger intensifies the sweat. The baking soda helps neutralize the chlorine in the water and make it softer, this is important if you don’t have a filter on your bath water. I learned more in depth about detox baths and their benefits here at pureinsideout.com.

There are some health problems that you should consult a doctor about before taking a detox bath. Unless you are a healthy person I would not suggest this unless you ask your doctor about it first. Thanks for stopping by!

  1. Thank you for this post, I am going to try it. My left eye also droops, as a child and teenager I was very self-conscious about it. As a 70 year old grandma I no longer think about it. I will try the bath for the health benefits.

  2. I had kind of a silly question, do you drink the 2-3 bottles of water after the bath or while your taking the bath?

I have a lot of sinus problems & trouble sleeping at night so I think this might be something I should try.

Thanks for sharing & God bless πŸ™‚

  3. Wow! Talk about a God thing! I,ve was just worrying last night because my droopy eye is getting worse, that maybe the doctors missed something. Then I opened my email to your detox bath Christmas idea. Being new, I had to click your link. I was so surprised and Grateful to read a possible answer to the problem I went to bed obsessing about! Thank you! I’ll be soaking & detoxing tonight! How long did it take before you noticed a difference with your eye? I’ll let you know how it works for me! Thanks!!!

  4. I see that you used ground ginger in the gift jars instead of the root. How much ground ginger do you use? Thanks

  5. Congenital ptosis (eyelid droop) is very common, afflicting more than 50% of Americans (start looking closer at celeb magazines). For many of my patients, simply increasing your caffeine intake is enough to “jolt” that lid open enough to appear symmetrical. Otherwise, a smart looking pair of glasses can also help hide the offender. BUT!!! You look normal and beautiful, so it is nothing to fret over, but sometimes a bit of insight is helpful. Love your recipies

  6. This might be a silly question but, when you give this as a gift, do you add the lavender oil in a small container or do you give them a full bottle or add it to the epsom salt?

  7. This may be a very personal question. So ignore it if it is. Are you expecting a baby? I wasn’t sure if your baby bump is a new picture or an older one of your son!

Also my eye lid droops as well and it is so very frustrating. That has always been an issue for me. I also dislike my space between my 2 front Teeth. If you find a remedy for that without braces and surgery, I will personal come down there and hug you!
    Thanks,

    1. That pic was from almost 5 years ago πŸ˜‰ We always wanted four children but drs say it would be fairly dangerous to have another now 😦 I really wish I could say I am pregnant but I’m not.

  8. I am so very sorry Johanna that I asked about the pregnancy. I have learned that is not a question to ask because it is so personal in so many ways for so many women. Please forgive me.

I can’t say that I know how you feel as I haven’t walked in your flip flops. But I can say we went through 3 1/2 years of infertility, got pregnant, had a very high risk pregnancy and almost lost the baby and myself. When our precious baby boy was born premature, we found out he was born with Autism. We had always wanted more children. We prayed so hard over having another one but we never felt to go ahead with it for many reasons. I am so happy that God blessed you with 3 beautiful children and blessed us with one very wonderful son!
    God Bless you,

  9. Hi there! I am so happy to have found this recipe, there are a few people who are going to love it. I have a questin though, can I mix the baking soda and epsom salt in the same jar? The lavendar as well? I know I have to keep the ginger root separate but I don’t want to use unnecessary jars. God bless

  10. I have one droopy eyelid too and nobody notices until I point it out but it bugs me in pictures. Thanks for the idea! I’ll try this πŸ™‚
