Tractors and Flowers

Last weekend I had the privilege to make cakes for a wedding. I always feel honored to be asked to do cakes, but this one was extra special. The groom was in our youth group for a few years, graduated high school, went to college and then called my husband up last year asking him to perform his wedding. It meant a lot to my husband to officiate the wedding and a lot to me to make their wedding cake and groom’s cake. The family treats us like family and it was a beautiful union of a young man we’ve watched grow up and his lovely bride. I will share the cakes another day but today I am sharing another secret project I was working on. Three of the grandparents had birthdays near the wedding date, so to honor those grandparents at the rehearsal dinner the mother of the groom asked me to make some specialty cookies. Lime + Mint Sugar Foot Scrub

I hope you all enjoyed your Mother’s Day weekend celebrating the mothers in your life. It is such a precious day to me as I hold my children that doctors told me I could never have. If you don’t know my infertility story you can read it here. I celebrated my mother, my grandmother, mother-in-law, friends who are mothers and a few Godly women who love on me as if I were their daughter. I spent the day thanking God for the mothers in my life in many forms and especially thanking Him for my sweet children that He gave me against all odds.

DIY Lipgloss

I get to meet weekly with some awesome high school and middle school girls. We do a bible study, discuss life and sometimes have a quick craft that I can apply to their lesson. These girls are amazing and I am honored to be a part of their lives! For the past few weeks we have been discussing their words and how they use them. This week one of the points of our lesson was to use what we say to encourage and build up those around them. So we made some easy DIY lipgloss as a reminder to have sweet words this week. Making Sweet Irish Soda Bread With Kids

So we just traveled home today after a nice week’s vacation at my parents house. It was obvious all the way home that my children had just left their Irish Grandmother’s house very close to St. Patrick’s Day! All the way home we heard them chattering about gold, leprechauns and shamrocks 🙂 I adore watching them listen to my mother’s stories. Seeing their eyes light up hearing about Irish folklore and traditions makes my heart warm. So when we got home I decided it would be a fun treat to make Irish soda bread together.

My Sister’s Wedding

My little sister got married today! I am happy for her and her husband and pray they have a wonderful life together. In case you haven’t read my “About Me” section my name is Johanna Spaulding. My sister’s new married name is Shannon Wilson. I found it fun that both our last names are sporting goods companies now 🙂 So I came up with a fun picture idea…

Lightning Bug Jars

The summer is winding down now, only a few more weeks until it is officially fall. My kids are hanging onto summer as long a they can! A few nights ago we came home at dusk and the lightning bugs were out. Our oldest of course initiated a lightning bug hunt :). We keep some ball jars just for this and in the spirit of the end of summer I thought I would share. Continue reading “Lightning Bug Jars”

Birthday Party for 2 Sweet Girls

This year we were traveling all around my daughter Bella’s birthday in July. By the time we slowed down enough to have a real party it was almost her older sister’s birthday. So after talking to the girls, they were fine combining their parties into one. They were not budging on a combined theme though. So we threw a half My Little Pony and half Doc McStuffins party!
