Fun With Plastic Easter Eggs

Easter is coming! The kids and I came up with a fun list of activities to do with plastic Easter eggs. So here are a few quick, easy, fun and inexpensive ways to use them with your children.

First you will need to get some plastic Easter eggs. I got ours for 88 cents at Walmart. I also picked up a few bags of green Easter grass, they were 50 cents a bag and I prefer the recycled paper kind over the plastic. I made a sensory tub from the eggs and grass. It was amazing how much fun the kids had just playing with those two items in a tub!

They stuffed the grass inside the eggs, just enjoyed running their fingers through the grass for texture, and hid the eggs under the grass. It made for a great 45 minute play time!

Next we used the eggs in the bath tub! The kids loved it, they switched the bases and tops and back again as a matching game. They also enjoyed that the eggs have a tiny hole in them and would drain water slowly if they filled them with water and held them up. Trust me it is the simplest things my kids enjoy. I have learned that overwhelming them with too much at once frustrates them and removes the need to stretch their own creativity.

Then we used the eggs for a more traditional game. Hide the Easter eggs around the house (I like to do it outside but it was too chilly to stay out very long). First we read a book called “Happy Easter Mouse” and it gets them excited about egg hunting. I let one child hide while the other two hang out upstairs. Then the two that did not hide come down with their baskets and have fun searching for eggs. We always find all the eggs and then switch around roles so each child gets a turn to be the hider. I almost enjoy watching the one that hid more than the searchers. Usually hints are given and the excitement is contagious!
