This week I had the opportunity to make a really awesome cake that I just had to share! It was for a little boy who is having a Nerf birthday party and wanted a camo cake! I was so excited to do my first camo cake inside and out.
Here is what I started with, four white cake mixes each colored different shades of black, brown and green.
Then I blobbed (for lack of a better word I made one up) each color into the extra large cake pan in small sections to give the camo look. This is right before I put it in the oven to bake.
Then when I turned it out after baking and cooling it looked like this.
I flipped it right side up onto my cake board and carved it to make a small “hill” on one side. I just LOVE how the inside turned out!
Then I iced with chocolate icing and homemade fondant leaves to give it a camo look on the outside.
Then I altered some Nerf darts I bought with toothpicks so they would stick around the cake.
Next I placed them around the cake and made a flag with his name on it for the top of the “hill”.
I also made some fondant dog tags that say happy birthday to hang around the flag pole.
I had lots of fun with this cake and really hope the birthday boy likes it also 🙂 thanks for stopping by!

Absolutely LOVE this!!! What a great idea!!
What a clever cake for my grandson also. Thanks!!!
Both my husband and I are in the Army, so this made the perfect birthday cake for him. My 2 year old helped make the cake, ‘plopping’ the different colored cake batter into the pan. Her random 2 year old style created a camo pattern that I would never have been able to do! It looked awesome. Instead of fondant, we used chocolate frosting and little girl alternated bright green (they looked darker on top of the chocolate) and gold sprinkles and brown jimmies. Everyone loved how it looked and little girl was very proud of herself!
did you make or buy the fondant leaves?
Made 🙂
