Homemade Oreos

My homemade oreos are my little sister’s favorite thing I bake. She recently started a new job, is moving in her first house and many exciting new things are happening for her! I wanted to congratulate her and encourage her in all of her new endeavors. So I spent my Saturday night baking her favorite treat 🙂 homemade oreo cookies. Ingredients: Cookies: 1 box devil’s food cake mix 2 Tablespoons shortening 1/3 cup hot water Cream filling: 3 1/2 cups powdered sugar 1/2 cup shortening 1/2 Tablespoon granulated white sugar 1/2 teaspoon vanilla 3 Tablespoons hot water Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Mix the ingredients for the cookies with a stand mixer or handheld mixer. It will be a thick batter don’t worry, it will look like this. 20120929-222833.jpg Then roll the batter into small balls and place on a cookie sheet. 20120929-222935.jpg Next use a glass with a smooth bottom dipped in flour to press the balls flat. 20120929-223047.jpg The cookies can be pretty close because they do not spread much. Bake them at 350 degrees for 7-8 min and the let them cool for a few min before transferring to a cooling rack. 20120929-223244.jpg 20120929-223800.jpg Once all the cookies have baked, mix the cream filling. I use the whisk attachment on my stand mixer to get a good consistency. Put all of the ingredients in and whisk until well blended. 20120929-223604.jpg Next take a small amount and roll it in your hands into a small ball and place on the inside of one cookie. 20120929-223727.jpg Place another cookie on top and press down so the filling squishes out to the sides and repeat! 20120929-224205.jpg 20120929-224223.jpg One batch makes around 2 dozen oreos but, I made a double batch this time to make sure my sweet family got some as well 🙂 My husband has a love for these yummy cookies also! Thanks for stopping by 🙂 Johanna

  1. Hi there. For some reason the link didn’t work on this email. 🙂

Ps. I am a ministers wife in Australia with two kids (a bit younger than yours 21 months and 9 weeks!)… I really enjoy your blog.

  2. I make a similar recipe. 1bx chocolate cake mix, 2 eggs, 1/3 cup oil. I then used cream cheese icing for the filling. YUM

  3. Made just the icing, to put in between homemade chocolate chip cookies. AMAZING! Tasted just like the Orea Cream Filling! Thanks!
